About Marcus

Marcus has had a camera in his hand since he was six years old. He was fortunate enough to go to a school with a photography teacher and professional dark room and his first image was published in the press in 1984.

Photography was first an interest, then a hobby and a passion, and is now his life's vocation. Marcus is widely travelled, having set foot on every major continent in the world, except for South America; and that's on his 'to do' list.

Marcus' business - Travelling Light Photography - combines his love of travel with photography. It was established in 2005 and focuses on two main areas:

  • Providing high quality professional photographic images and services for a variety of corporate and commercial clients and
  • Creating tailor-made small group photography tours for private clients around New Zealand.

Marcus' innate curiosity to explore the world and its mysteries crosses over into his photography, where his style tends towards reportage and he aims to capture reality in his work. Marcus believes that the truest images of a person are made when someone is unaware of the photographer; enabling the photographer to capture the essence of someone just being themselves.

Marcus was the Official Photographer at the Wrangler 2008 International Rodeo, held in Christchurch. He provided the cover shot for the New Zealand Rodeo Cowboys Association magazine as part of that shoot.

His professional photography clients include: New Zealand's top law firm, a number of advertising agencies, several boutique accommodation and hospitality providers, food industry companies and a range of other businesses and publications.

Marcus' images are represented by Australia's premier independent media agency Picture Media, based in Sydney. He is a member of AIPA (Advertising & Illustrative Photographer's Association) and the International Federation of Journalists and has a full press pass.

What our Clients say

We needed some photographic images to promote our new premises move - to the Maritime Tower building in Wellington’s CBD - and commissioned Marcus to do a photo shoot. He understood the brief well and produced many high quality images, which we were able to use across a variety of media. We were very impressed with his professionalism and with the results.

Marcus also took the photographs at our Corporate Christmas Party and managed to capture the spirit of the occasion - not an easy thing to achieve with over 200 people mingling on two separate levels.
